Louisville locals rely on an influx of visitors each May. Crowds flock to a little show called the Kentucky Derby – some know it as the the most exciting two minutes in sports – held on the first Saturday of the month. But locals know the fun in Louisville remains long after the race has been run, and the opportunities for entertainment extend far beyond the track.
Spots like Iroquis Park allow guests to do a little horseback riding of their own or simply hike the miles of trails. Also on site are tennis courts, scenic overlooks and the Iroquis Amphitheater, the open-air theatre that hosts big-name bands.
There's plenty of fun for the whole family as well, with both the Louisville Science Center and Louisville Zoo in easy reach. All the activity will no doubt work up an appetite, but Louisville's well prepared with their signature Hot Brown sandwich, which dates back to the 1920's and the historic Brown Hotel.
Oh, did we mention there's history? Pretty much, there's a little of everything in Louisville.
