Somerset’s Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital believes in holistic medicine – nurturing the patient’s spiritual, physical and psychological welfare. Health Ministries in Caring Congregations, an initiative that partners the hospital with the region’s churches, is the hospital’s attempt to do just that. Health Ministries provides the hospital with parish nurses; registered nurses who are members of the congregation. Parish nurses are able to draw a relationship between faith and health and are free to address the spiritual aspect of healing in prayer and counseling. Welcoming Improvement Ever improving, expanding and planning, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital does its part to remain on the cutting edge of technology and acute care “The most surprising thing people find is the technology we have,” Susan Wilson, the director of hospital marketing and public relations, says. “What’s found in our hospital is what you would expect to find in a metropolitan hospital.” Getting Technical With many more programs, new technology and tech-savvy physicians, LCRH reaches across county lines. With the region’s only open-heart surgery program, LCRH is a center of new technology and advances in acute care. “Before we opened the open-heart center, patients generally had to travel between 80 and 100 miles for open-heart surgery,” says Wilson. The center additionally allows heart patients to complete post-operative rehabilitation close to home. Also, the LCRH has been ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for spine surgery, according to HealthGrades, the nation’s leading provider of independent hospital ratings. The study ranks the hospital number one in Kentucky for spine surgery in 2009. “The commitment of our company is to provide the best care to the people we serve, and we are so proud of our ability to achieve this by providing these advanced levels of treatment,” Wilson says. For the Community Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital also serves the community with specialized off-site facilities including a sleep disorders center and an imaging center. In addition, a sports medicine and wellness center offers warm-water therapy; physical, occupational and speech therapy; a certified strength and conditioning specialist; an industrial rehabilitation and safety program; and treatment of athletic and sports injuries.
