For those who want views of Lake Ponchartrain in their home, living along Chateau Boulevard and Vintage Drive guarantee a lovely vista. Close to the Chateau Country Club, this neighborhood is full of single-family homes with a few apartments and attached dwellings. Residents here are mostly urban singles, but families and seniors pepper the area.


Just off of Esplanade Avenue, this neighborhood is close to the Esplanade Mall. Not only is there great shopping in the area, but this neighborhood of single-family homes and apartments is walkable. Young singles are the majority in this area, but families with children and seniors are also a large part of the population.

City Center

Kenner’s city center is an urban neighborhood with established homes. Owners and renters live in the area’s single-family, medium-sized homes and apartment buildings. Families and young professionals make up the majority of the population.


Kenner was selected as one of Livability’s Top 10 Cities for Veterans for several reasons. The city’s closeness to New Orleans means that retirees from the New Orleans Naval Station can partake in the facility’s commissary and exchange. Another benefit? Federal pensions are not taxed.

Those who retire and choose to stay in New Orleans have many options for housing. One of city’s military neighborhoods is Patrician Military Housing, which is part of the Village at Federal City. It is an off-base area that is close to good schools and has a gated community for active and retired military.

Retirement Communities

Kenner’s retirees have many communities to choose from as well. Nouveau Marc is located close to Lake Ponchartrain, and residents have easy access to Treasure Chest Casino and the Social Security Administration. The community’s apartments are pet-friendly and feature an emergency call system.

Another retirement residence in Kenner is Emeritus at Kenner. This community is close to Nouveau Marc and offers several levels of assistance and care for residents. Housekeeping and a staff that is available 24-hours a day provide Emeritus residents with a safe, comfortable environment.
