Lafayette, LA Higher Education Overview
Lafayette plays host to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Part of the University of Louisiana System that has nine campuses, UL Lafayette has the most students enrolled in its system, and its student population is the second largest in the state.
Known as one of the South’s best universities, UL Lafayette has a nationally ranked business college, and the school is well known for its nursing, biology, architecture and computer science programs. It is the only place in Louisiana where students can obtain a doctorate in francophone studies and a degree in industrial design.
Community and Technical College
South Louisiana Community College’s Lafayette campus offers residents academic and vocational opportunities. The school’s three sites have about 3,000 students enrolled, and its programs in liberal arts, education and engineering technician are most popular.
Louisiana Technical College, which also has a campus in Lafayette, is part of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The college focuses on providing education and training that exceeds students’ expectations. The campus is on 20-plus acres of land and attracts students from surrounding parishes.
The school offers more than 15 different fields from culinary arts to surgical technology.
