Parks and Recreation
There are more than 16 parks in Cambridge. Some of these include: Charles River Esplanade, Fresh Pond Parkway and Alewife Brook Reservation, perfect for riding the bike along the trails or peaceful bird-watching. Additionally, four off-leash parks available for you to play fetch with your dog.
Cambridge also has a Recreation Division with facilities to keep you active. The War Memorial is the division’s main facility, complete with a three pools, a gym, ball courts and discounted rates for senior citizens.
Also provided by the Recreation Division are outdoor softball, soccer and baseball fields with limited walk-in hours. To get involved, adult and youth programs are available, ranging from fast-pitch adult softball to Pop Warner football and cheerleading. The Cambridge Program helps create opportunities for those with special needs to get active in the community.
Retirees in this area may join the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement, an excellent opportunity to get a degree. Retirees who are a part of this program learn about cognitive linguistics, quantum mechanics or China’s current economy.
On top of academics, students in this program can partake in extracurricular activities, such as drama or music.
Bring your clubs to the nine-hole Fresh Pond Golf Course. The No. 1 rated public golf course in the Boston area is also the site of a well-established woman’s league and charitable events.
