The old Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, built in 1927, still stands on Bicentennial Boulevard in downtown McAllen, Texas. On February 13, 2011, McAllen turns 100 years old, having transitioned from a South Texas border village into the vibrant city that it is today.

McAllen’s a popular place for both retirees and young entrepreneurs and innovators, as it offers a semi-tropical climate, international culture and plenty of fun things to do.

The area boasts an average annual temperature of 74 degrees, mild winters and temperate summers, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind any time of the year. Particularly during the winter and fall months, “Winter Texans” love to call this place home, escaping the frigid winters in their home states of Nebraska‚ North Dakota‚ Minnesota and Wisconsin, nearly doubling the population each year.
