The Interlochen Center for the Arts is one of Traverse City’s premier locations for artistic expression and education. Founded in 1928, the center offers a summer arts camp which draws 2,000 campers (ages 8-18) who get the chance to learn and grow in their artistic abilities. For those students who want to seriously pursue the arts, the Interlochen Arts Academy High School offers training in music, dance, acting, writing, and the visual arts in a boarding school environment for students beginning in the ninth grade with a rigorous college preparatory class schedule. Awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2006 for artistic excellence, the center is also home to Interlochen Presents, a series of more than 600 events and concerts each year highlighting the talents of students, faculty and special guests.
