The City Opera House is a hot spot for entertainment in Traverse City. Constructed in 1891, the site is the oldest of the three remaining historically intact opera houses in the city. This 700-seat venue, known by many as the “Grand Old Lady,” offers visitors a chance to enjoy events like musical theatre, comedy performances and concerts. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, the opera house partners with Michigan State University's Wharton Center for Performing Arts to provide patrons with a wide array of entertainment options. Kids can even get in on the excitement during City Opera House’s “Take it From the Top” summer educational workshops. These workshops, taught by theatre experts, help kids refine their performing arts skills in a fun and interactive setting.
