Duluth has three award-winning hospitals that each have a variety of specialties and accreditations.

Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center

Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center is northeastern Minnesota’s largest hospital. The facility has almost 400 beds, and it offers specialized care in a variety of areas.

This hospital has won a bevy of awards including the National Research Corporation’s Consumer Choice Award and the Minnesota Hospital Association Patient Safety Excellence Award. Essentia Health-St. Mary’s is also accredited by The Joint Commission and awarded their Gold Seal of Approval.

Essentia Health-Duluth in the Miller-Dwan Medical Center

The Essentia Health-Duluth facility is housed in the Miller-Dwan Medical Center and is no stranger to awards and recognition. Like Essentia Health-St. Mary’s, this hospital has also been accredited by The Joint Commission and awarded their Gold Seal of Approval as well as winning a Minnesota Hospital Association for Patient Safety Excellence Award.

Essentia Health-Duluth has also been accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for programs in brain injury, spinal cord system of care, pediatric family-centered care and stroke specialty.

St. Luke’s Hospital

Duluth’s St. Luke’s Hospital provides medical and surgical care to its patients. It is accredited by the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. US News & World Report ranked it as high-performing in Pulmonology, and the hospital has also been recognized for its excellence in diabetes care by the National Committee for Quality Assurance in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association.

Speaking of excellence, St. Luke’s has also won a Governor’s Partnership Awards for Excellence in Waste and Pollution Prevention.
