Minneapolis residents are lucky when it comes to food. They have award-winning chefs and restaurants like you’d find in New York City, but the food comes with a Midwest price tag. From a diner breakfast to an elegant Italian dinner, Minneapolis cuisine is varied and delicious.

Al’s Breakfast

Located in the Dinkytown neighborhood, Al’s Breakfast brings true definition to the word little. A Minneapolis icon since 1950, the 14-seat diner was previously an alleyway, and diners cozy up to one another for this no-frills dining experience.

However, what it may lack in ambiance and amenities, it makes up for with its food. The buttermilk pancakes and bacon waffles are a crowd favorite, and the line for this James Beard award-winning restaurant can stretch out the door and around the corner. Be sure to leave your credit card at home; this Diners, Drive-ins and Dives restaurant only accepts cash.

Brasa Rotisserie

High-quality ingredients are the focus at Brasa Rotisserie. Almost all of the meat, flour, dairy and eggs used are from small family-owned farms and co-ops in the Midwest, and they use local vegetables when available. Most of the items on the menu are gluten free, and the pulled pork as well as the roasted yams with andouille sausage are favorite dishes. Travel Channel personality Adam Richman raves about Brasa Rotisserie, and locals wholeheartedly agree.

Bar La Grassa

Fine dining and Italian cuisine merge at Bar La Grassa. Touted in Food & Wine and Bon Appetit for its delicious food, this restaurant gained recognition for its chef and co-owner Isaac Becker, who won a James Beard award for Best Chef-Midwest. Diners love the soft eggs and lobster bruschetta and the gnocchi with cauliflower and orange, and its selection of upscale Italian food makes it a Minneapolis favorite.
