Sometimes, a minor health issue can be resolved with a visit to a neighborhood walk-in clinic. But sometimes, health care requires cutting-edge treatment at a topnotch regional hospital. Fortunately, Scott County residents can choose either — and a variety of health-care options in between. Among the area’s leading providers:

St. Francis Regional Medical Center

Founded by a group of Franciscan sisters in 1938, St. Francis has grown into a comprehensive hospital serving Scott County, Carver and western Dakota counties with a full menu of care options, including its Ortho Neuro Sciences Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center, Women’s Health and Breast Center, and Trauma Center.

Long regarded as one of the nation’s leading community hospitals, St. Francis approaches the care it provides with a focus on healing body, mind and spirit.

It has achieved numerous distinctions, among them being named one of the Nation’s Top 100 Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics. St. Francis also won the 2015 Commission on Cancer/American College of Surgeons Outstanding Achievement Award. Ninety percent of patients rate the medical center’s Family Birth Place as “very good” or better, and the survival rate for patients with breast, lung and colon cancer exceeds the national average. If needed, patients can transfer quickly to two of the top heart centers in Minnesota for cath lab (heart attack) care, Abbott Northwestern and Park Nicollet Heart and Vascular Center.

Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague

The New Prague facility is one of more than 70 locations within the Mayo Clinic Health System network of clinics, hospitals and other health-care facilities. The system, launched in 1992, now covers Iowa, Georgia, Wisconsin and Minnesota. As part of the Mayo Clinic, a renowned caregiver for almost 150 years, the New Prague facility provides health care options, from primary to highly specialized, for Scott County residents.

Shakopee Veterans Administration Clinic

Also known as Shakopee Community Based Outpatient Clinic, this facility specializes in veterans’ care. Its services include primary care, mental health, non-invasive radiology and lab services, electrocardiograms (EKG), immunizations, pharmacy management, dietetics and tele-health for certain specialty services. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
