Chesterfield, a vibrant western suburb of St. Louis, enjoys a dynamic economy and has more than 2,000 successful businesses and 42,000 employed in the community. Small businesses make up most of the companies, while large corporations also play a big role.

Key sectors include education, health care, insurance, manufacturing, retail and technology, and here is some background on eight of the largest employers in Chesterfield:

St. Luke’s Hospital

The city’s largest employer with 3,400 employees is St. Luke’s Hospital, a 493-bed facility that treats patients in more than 60 specialty areas. St. Luke’s also has 26 clinics throughout the region that provide services like urgent care, imaging and specialty care.

Parkway School District

More than 17,000 students and 1,200 employees make up Parkway School District, which has 28 schools along with a nontraditional high school and an early childhood center. Parkway has a 95.5 percent graduation rate, and more than 65 percent of high school seniors participate in AP or dual-credit courses.

Education Opportunities in Chesterfield, MO

Monsanto

Operating a 210-acre campus in Chesterfield near the Missouri River is Monsanto, which recently expanded its Chesterfield Village Research Center. The addition allows the company to have all its agricultural research and development operations on one campus in the city. Monsanto continues to have its corporate headquarters in nearby Creve Coeur.

Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield

Nearly 1,000 employees work for Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield, a facility that provides care to residents from Chesterfield, O’Fallon, St. Charles, Wildwood, St. Louis and surrounding areas. Delmar specializes in rehabilitative care for stroke victims, post-operative patients, Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers, and more.

Reinsurance Group of America

One of the largest global life and health reinsurance companies in the world is Reinsurance Group of America, based in Chesterfield. Reinsurance is insurance purchased by an insurance company from another insurance company for reasons of risk management, and RGA in 2017 has more than $50 billion in assets.

Dierbergs Markets

Headquartered in Chesterfield, Dierbergs is a supermarket chain that operates 25 stores in Missouri and Illinois – including two in Chesterfield. The company’s history dates to 1854, and today there are more than 5,000 total employees.

Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Chesterfield, MO

Pfizer

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, with current research and development operations in both Chesterfield and Weldon Spring, announced in 2016 that the company would consolidate its operations into a new $200 million facility at 875 W. Chesterfield Pkwy., on the northwest corner of Olive Boulevard and Chesterfield Parkway. Construction began in 2017 and will be completed in 2020, and its current 450-person workforce is expected to increase by about 100 people when the new site opens.

Spirit of St. Louis Airport

Named for the famous aircraft piloted by Charles Lindbergh in 1927, today more than 150 companies do business on the grounds of Spirit of St. Louis Airport. About 144,000 flights per year (almost 400 a day) occur at the general aviation airfield, and about 450 aircraft are based there.
