If you can’t find anything to do recreation-wise in Columbia, MO, you just aren’t looking hard enough. For example, there are more than 75 parks including popular venues such as Kiwanis Park, Lake of the Woods Recreation Area and Stephens Lake Park. Here are more highlights:
Activity and Recreation Center
Activity and Recreation Center, or ARC, houses a gymnasium, meeting rooms, party rooms and a water zone complete with a pool. Activities include group exercise classes and several special functions. ARC has fees and memberships, and there is a Kid Zone child-care facility on site.
There are eight attractive golf courses within the Columbia city limits, including five public facilities and three private venues. The public courses are A.L. Gustin Golf Course, Lake of the Woods, L.A. Nickell Municipal Golf Course, which has been listed as one of Golf Digest's “Best Places to Play,” Perche Creek Golf Club, and a nine-hole The Links at Columbia. The three private courses are Columbia Country Club, Country Club of Missouri and The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Its full name is Columbia Cosmopolitan Recreation Area, but known by most residents as Cosmo Park. It is home to Antimi Sports Complex, Rainbow Softball Center, soccer and football fields, L.A. Nickell Municipal Golf Course and Columbia Skate Park.
Columbia Skate Park
This outdoor facility for skateboarders and inline skaters is recognized nationwide by the skating community. Completed in 1999, Columbia Skate Park is an elaborate 28,000-square-foot street course designed by skaters ranging in age from 12-24 years old. It is located at the north end of Cosmo Park and features a pyramid, high banks, 150 feet of quarter pipe, 30 feet of half pipe, three sets of stairs, a 15-foot-wide taco and a 30-foot-wide fun box.
The city is home to such venues as Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center, Douglass Park & Pool, Lake of the Woods Pool and Little Mates Cove at Twin Lakes Recreation Area. There are also Stephens Lake and Spraygrounds, Flat Branch Spraygrounds and Douglass Spraygrounds, plus indoor aquatic facilities such as Activity and Recreation Center's Water Zone and David H. Hickman High School.
