The capital of Mississippi, Jackson is located along the Pearl River. An integrated transportation system includes three interstates and Jackson-Medgar Evers International Airport. A center of culture, Jackson is known for its musical influences in blues, jazz and gospel. The economy includes major industry sectors in advanced manufacturing, health care, information technology, food processing and distribution. Students have access to more than a dozen college and university campuses, and the downtown district is currently undergoing a $1.5 billion renovation initiative.
