Oxford, MS Public and Private Schools Overview

The Oxford area includes two public school systems and two private schools.

Oxford students have access to high-ranking public schools as well as top-notch private institutions.

Public Schools

Oxford School District comprises seven educational facilities including three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, a learning center and school designed for students with special needs.

The district educates approximately 3,350 students and has one of the highest graduation rates in Mississippi at 91 percent. In addition, Oxford School District is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Lafayette County School District is located nearby and primarily serves Abbeville, Taylor and other rural areas. The district has five schools including two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and a vocational school that focuses on applied technology.

Lafayette County School District educates approximately 2,693 students and also has a high graduation rate of 88 percent.

Private Schools

Oxford has two private schools: Oxford University School and Regents School of Oxford.

Oxford University School serves students from pre-kindergarten through fourth grade but plans to expand options to fifth and sixth graders. The school, established in 1984, offers a full curriculum complete with music, art, Spanish, physical education and computer lab.

Regents School of Oxford is a Christian institution that educates students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. In addition to regular coursework, students enjoy a variety of extracurricular activities and sports such as swimming, cross country, basketball, tennis, golf and cheerleading.

Japanese students can also attend the North Mississippi Japanese Supplementary School at the University of Mississippi, which offers classes once a week on Saturdays. The school primarily focuses on the Japanese langauge and mathematics, and also hosts special Japanese events such as Sports Day and New Year's Calligraphy.
