The restaurant scene in Tupelo and Lee County has grown dramatically.  You can find plenty of exciting options when planning a meal out, whether you're in the mood for an upscale or casual atmosphere.

Do Lunch

If you’re looking for lunch in all the right places, Ms. Ruth's Express  has been delighting customers for 12 years with its delicious old-school Southern cooking. Beverly Blaylock’s Sweet Tea and Biscuits Café carries on Southern dining traditions with great chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches.

On that “sweet” theme: Sweet Tomato Pizza Kitchen offers fine specialty pizzas, HoneyBaked Ham delivers a variety of to-go sides and delicious sandwiches, and Simply Sweet by Margarete answers every sweet-tooth craving you could ever have with truffles, cakes, bars, cookies and more. For a not-sweet option, their bacon bread is delightful.

Café 212 on West Main serves diner-style food with retro flair (try the Elvis-inspired “Blue Suede Grill”). The old-fashioned cooking and painless price tag at Aunt B’s Soul Food will stay on your mind long after lunch. West End Market and Deli proves that great food in Mississippi often can be found inside a gas station market. Cozy, warm Weezie’s Deli and Gifts is a source of wonderful sandwiches you can grab to go. Yummy Yogurt & Café uses the freshest produce in its sandwiches and wraps.

Homer’s Steaks & More prides itself on Hereford steaks, to which you can add shrimp or a lobster tail. On the chain side, grab a solid steak dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. On the same street, Gabriel’s On Goster is a family-owned business with terrific burgers, fun sandwiches and rich starters like poutine.

The same powerhouse team owns the very gracious Park Heights Restaurant, Fairpark Grill and Harvey’s, all guaranteed to make for a sparkling evening of marvelous food. Romie’s Grocery on West Jackson Street has excellent patio dining, live music and specialties. Steele’s Dive may not look glamorous, but the food and roadhouse-style atmosphere keep customers returning. Grata Grille at the Holiday Inns & Suites sets a high bar for hotel restaurants with an excellent menu.

Barbecue and Wings

Spice and smoke? Buffalo Wild Wings has wings with sauces to match your taste, cold beer and your favorite sporting events; Wingstop gives you hot wings with an aviation theme.

If you want real Southern barbecue, stop by Bar-B-Q by Jim Smokehouse and Grill, for Boston butts and ribs smoked just right. Crossroads Rib Shack keeps the focus on the ribs, with old fashioned sides and desserts to go with them. Local micro-chain Bishop’s BBQ Grill is renowned for its sauces and rubs (available to take home too) with two locations in Tupelo.

Outdoor Dining

If you want to enjoy the great outdoors, start with food trucks. Local MOBILE was the first. Two Dudes Mexican Food offers up delicious tamales. And although it's more a cart than a truck, you can get fresh, tasty handmade ice pops from Popsy. You can follow these vendors' various locations daily on their Facebook pages.

Other casual options for family, and gentlemen or ladies who lunch include Newk’s Express Café and McAlister’s Deli, both quick and good. Locally owned microchain Sweet Pepper’s Deli showcases soup, flatbreads and wraps. D’Casa Rancho Grill is friendly, tasty Tex Mex. Old Venice Pizza Company blends a bit of Creole goodness with Italian standbys.
