Beautiful scenery is easy to find in Missoula, situated along the Clark Fork River and the convergence of five mountain ranges. Key economic sectors include agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing and technology, and the following are brief synopses about 10 of this city’s major employers:

Community Medical Center

On a 45-acre campus in the middle of the Missoula valley is Community Medical Center, the only medical facility offering obstetrical and newborn care in Missoula County. The hospital employs more than 1,800 workers.

Providence St. Patrick Hospital

The 237-bed St. Patrick Hospital is the only trauma center in western Montana, and the medical center also features an International Heart Institute. The hospital has about 1,500 employees, including 200 physicians.

Missoula County Public Schools

Nine elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools make up the Missoula County Public Schools system. The district also has an alternative high school, early learning preschool and a Lifelong Learning adult education center.

University of Montana

Go Grizzlies! The University of Montana was founded in 1893 and ranks fifth in the nation among public universities in producing Rhodes Scholars. The scenic campus makes an effort to combine academic quality and outdoor recreation for its students.

DirecTV Customer Service

Located near Missoula International Airport, the DirecTV Customer Service call center employs 800 people who answer questions and provide technical support to the satellite TV company’s current and potential customers.

Montana Department of Agriculture

More than 30 programs are operated by the Montana Department of Agriculture, and the Missoula office has 500 employees who develop and market those programs to increase growth in Montana agriculture.

City of Missoula

Animal control, cemetery, environmental health, fire, parks and recreation, police and public works are among the many departments overseen by the 500 employees who work for the City of Missoula.

County of Missoula
