Breakfast/Lunch

Founded in 2013, Biscuit Head promises to “put some South in your mouth.” The restaurant’s three locations are a testament to the popularity of BH’s biscuits. Green Sage Cafe is another inspired choice, revered for its healthy dishes, emphasis on sustainability and unique shakes and smoothies. Voted best bakery in Asheville two years in a row by the Mountain Xpress, Well-Bred Bakery & Cafe offers a large and varied menu of baked goods – from scones and muffins for breakfast to sandwiches on fresh-baked croissants for lunch. The bakery also serves gourmet coffee from local roasters.

Get It To Go

In a hurry? No time to cook? Stop by 67 Biltmore downtown and take home the eatery’s “good-as-homemade” casseroles and lasagna. Pick up a New York-style pie at one of Marco’s Pizzeria’s two locations or a pulled pork sandwich from Luella’s BBQ, slathered in Sweet Pisgah, Scooter’s Vinegar or another signature sauce. Grab a made-to-order sandwich or burger from Roman’s deli downtown or choose from a number of restaurants that deliver from Takeout Central

Culture, Events and Activities in Asheville, NC

From the Source

Embrace Asheville’s farm-to-table movement. Pick your own locally sourced meats for a special meal at the Chop Shop, the city’s first whole-animal butchery, or Hickory Nut Gap Farm, which features grass-fed meats. Dynamite Roasting offers 100 percent certified organic coffee beans for your morning brew, while Round Mountain Creamery features farm-fresh goat milk and cheeses.

Mexican/World-American

Mamacita’s Mexican Grill – located downtown on Biltmore Avenue next to the Wicked Weed Brewery – is popular for its reasonably priced, made-from-scratch Mexican food. The menu at the White Duck Taco Shop changes frequently, but the crispy chicken BLT, buffalo chicken and lamb gyro tacos are all delightful options on the current incarnation.

Why Asheville is Beer City, USA

Coffee & Dessert

French Broad Chocolates is a must-visit if you’re a chocolate enthusiast. Hang out in FBC’s chocolate lounge, where you can enjoy artisanal chocolates and pastries, along with local beers or tea and coffee from like-minded establishments. Sometimes called the microbrewery of ice cream, Ultimate Ice Cream serves premium, handcrafted ice cream in a variety of inventive and mouthwatering flavors, such as Cup of Joe or Ultimate Chai. Soon, you’ll be able to find pints of Ultimate Ice Cream in local grocery stores.

Beyond Downtown

Asheville’s food scene extends beyond downtown. King Daddy’s Chicken & Waffles serves up delicious Southern fried chicken with crisp waffles at its location on Haywood Road. Mamacita’s Taco Temple is a local favorite, serving tacos, tortas and Mexican sandwiches made from fresh ingredients and handmade corn and flour tortillas. Be sure to pair your meal with a drink from the restaurant’s well-stocked tequila bar.
