Celebrating a decade of service to Elizabeth City, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is broadening its services in the community and making it easier than ever for patients to receive care.

The Sleep Center at Chesapeake Regional, open since 2009 and conveniently located in Elizabeth City’s Halstead Boulevard Extension area, serves those with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia and snoring. Care providers monitor patients’ heart rate, breathing, brain activity, blood-oxygen level, and muscle and eye movements. Directed by premier pulmonologist Dr. Albrecht Heyder, the four-bed facility offers day and night sleep studies to accommodate each patient’s schedule. In the future, pediatric sleep studies will be available.

Next door to the Sleep Center at Chesapeake Regional is the Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center, which opened in the summer of 2018. The Sleep Center features two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers that serve patients with serious infections and wounds that won’t heal due to conditions such as diabetes or radiation injuries.

Soon, the clinic comprising both the Sleep Center at Chesapeake Regional and the Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center will also include the Internal Medicine of Elizabeth City primary care practice, thanks in part to a $100,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation through its open grants program.

The new practice will give patients convenient access to a broader range of health-care providers and services. It also includes a laboratory that’s open to the public. In addition, the newly constructed Internal Medicine of Elizabeth City facility will include X-ray services, expanded walk-in hours and weekend hours, giving community members more opportunities to receive care.

As a member of the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare regularly gives back to the Pasquotank County community and thanks its patients for trusting the organization to meet their health-care needs.
