Discover and delight in Elizabeth City's downtown district.
Surrounded by water and lined with eclectic shops, fun and delicious restaurants and the picturesque waterfront, Elizabeth City's downtown is hard to beat. The city's mix of business districts, entertainment options and cultural opportunities make the city a desirable spot to live, work, or visit.
Once a major seaport, the Harbor of Hospitality now offers 48-hours free dockage to travelers, and lives up to its nickname through the Rose Buddies, who greet city guests with wine, cheese and a rose.
One of the city's most notable attractions is the Downtown Waterfront Market. Started in 2008, the market offers produce, baked goods, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations and live performances. The market is held every Saturday and Tuesday, and offers an excellent way to support local farmers and artists, while taking in all downtown has to offer.
Other attractions include the Museum of the Albemarle, Port Discover and many shops. The city also hosts various events and festivals, including the annual North Carolina Potato Festival. The festival celebrates one of the state's largest crops with the National Patato Peeling Contest, potato sack races, culinary competitions, live bands and unique vendors.
