North Carolina may be known for its world-famous barbeque – and there is wide variety of can’t-miss barbeque joints around Gaston County. But foodies of all stripes can find a growing offering of restaurants to suit their tastes in Gaston County.
Take Old Stone Steakhouse, for example. The Belmont steakhouse is known for – what else? – some of the best steaks in town. And while people rave about the incredibly tender and perfectly cooked steaks, the mellow atmosphere and friendly service, they are rhapsodic about their signature side dishes, which include Creamed Collards, Old Stone Cheddar Grits and Buttermilk Fried Squash.
Located inside the historic Webb theater in downtown Gastonia is Nick's Steak and Taphouse. Watch the chefs prepare your meal from their open kitchen, and select from a menu including hand-made steaks, seafood, pasta, salads, chicken and burgers. The restaurant houses a full bar complete with plenty of wine, beer and mixed drink options.
Cafes and Coffee Houses
Cherubs Café on Main Street in downtown Belmont is a favorite of weekday working lunch regulars. The café features gourmet and specialty coffees, ice cream and fresh-baked desserts, and homemade soups, salads and sandwiches.
The adjacent Cherubs Candy Bouquets sells gift “bouquets” of candy and chocolates. Both are subsidiaries of Holy Angels, a nonprofit corporation that is home to disabled children and adults. Residents can receive vocational training by working at Cherubs Café or assembling the Cherubs Candy Bouquets.
Even though it's name may seem unusual for a coffee shop, its coffee is not. GasPump Coffee Company is a full-service coffee shop located in downtown Gastonia. They offer a variety of coffees and fresh pastries and try to accommodate special requests. You can also browse their books, gifts, art and accessories.
WiredCoffeeExpress.com is another hit in Gastonia. The cafe offers coffees, gelato and other drinks, and provides space for local musicians and artists to showcase their work.
