High Point’s Unparalleled Advantages

Part of the Piedmont Triad, High Point is a tightly knit community that gives residents easy access to the hustle and bustle of large cities, as well as a more peaceful, family-friendly environment to call home.

“We’re centrally located in North Carolina, and we’re nestled right in between Winston-Salem and Greensboro,” says Nancy Bowman, director of sales and marketing for the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau. “High Point is also a great place to live because there’s rarely any traffic, and that means you have more time to have fun and enjoy your life instead of spending hours in the car commuting.”

Bowman says High Point residents are just a short drive from many of North Carolina’s top attractions, such as the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, and the city is near both mountains and beaches.

The community’s affordable housing market and broad selection of unique neighborhoods makes it a desirable place to live too. The median home price in High Point is a reasonable $142,400, well below both state and national averages.

“The cost of living in High Point is considerably lower than you’ll find in other areas of the state,” Bowman says. “When you live in an affordable place, you can have a nice home and still be able to go out to restaurants, take trips and do other ‘extra’ things – that’s a big reason our community is so appealing.”

How to Make Every Weekend the Best Weekend in High Point, NC

Entertainment, Festivals & Outdoor Opportunities

High Point is known as a top spot for outdoor recreation. Its 42 parks include two with large lakes – Oak Hollow Lake Park and High Point City Lake Park – making them perfect for activities like boating and fishing. Additionally, the Bicentennial Greenway stretches from Piedmont Environmental Center to Greensboro, spanning nearly 20 miles, and the High Point Greenway covers just over 3.5 miles.

The 200-acre Gibson Park is another favorite outdoor destination, home to 8 miles of nature trails. All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farm is another must-visit spot for those interested in getting up close and personal with beautiful Monarch butterflies. Looking for a place to play a round of golf? High Point delivers, with challenging tracks like Oak Hollow Golf Course, Blair Park Golf Course and Jamestown Park Golf Course.

When it comes to entertainment, residents have plenty of options. For example, High Point University lays claim to the Hayworth Fine Arts Center and hosts special events throughout the year, such as the two-day Community Christmas Celebration. The city is proud to host the popular John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival annually during Labor Day weekend.

Also offering entertainment is High Point Theatre, a must-visit downtown destination for plays, concerts, recitals and other live performances.

“High Point Theatre has been called one of the most well-designed acoustical venues in the region, and there’s not a bad seat in the house,” says David Briggs, the venue’s director.

Looking to the future, the community will soon offer even more quality-of-life amenities and fun attractions as its downtown district is revitalized and diversified. A multi-use stadium is slated to open downtown in 2019, followed by apartments, restaurants, shops, offices, a park and a children’s museum.

“With the stadium as a catalyst, we will see a new urban district in High Point,” says Ray Gibbs, executive director of Forward High Point, a nonprofit organization working in conjunction with the City of High Point to enhance the community’s downtown core. “This will be a place for the folks of High Point to meet and engage with their friends and neighbors – a place that is a true High Point experience.”
