The top employers in Kinston, NC and Lenoir County help to anchor an economy that continues to grow, providing new jobs to residents and attracting even more business. 

This region that houses amenities like the North Carolina Global TransPark and Kinston Regional Airport features a healthy mix of large and small manufacturers as well as a strong foundation of small businesses, tourism and agriculture-based companies. Private employers include Hillco LTD, MasterBrand Cabinets, Mother Earth Brewing and West Pharmaceutical Services, and also in Kinston is Spirit AeroSystems – the world’s largest independent supplier of commercial airplane assemblies and components.

One of the largest companies in Kinston-Lenoir County is Caswell Development Center, whose 1,400 employees provide services to people with disabilities. Those services include speech therapy, dental surgery, dietary programs, psychological evaluations, physical therapy and medical help from nurses. CDC opened in 1914 and is North Carolina’s oldest residential facility for people with disabilities, and today Caswell Development Center can provide in-house care for up to 375 inpatients.

Health Care

Another large employer in the region is Lenoir Memorial Hospital, nestled in the heart of the county. LMH is a not-for-profit hospital with 1,200 employees, including more than 100 physicians who oversee general medical, surgical and gynecological care along with specialized services such as cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, radiology and urology. The hospital is licensed for 261 beds, and also on site are a Family Birth Center, a Cancer Center and a Sleep Center.

Manufacturing

With more than 600 employees in Kinston, Electrolux Home Products manufactures a variety of appliances that places the company among the global leaders in food preparation items, storage products, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and dishwashers. Besides an Electrolux line, the Kinston assembly plant manufactures large and small appliances with brand names like Grand Cuisine, Eureka, Frigidaire, Molteni, Westinghouse and Zanussi.

At Associated Materials Inc. in Kinston, about 400 employees manufacture vinyl windows, vinyl siding, doors, fencing and other products for commercial and residential customers. The 319,000-square-foot assembly plant in Kinston produces vinyl windows under brand names such as Alpine, Alside, Gentek and Revere, and Associated Materials sells to construction contractor supply centers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The company’s sales surpass $1 billion annually.

A staff of 350 employees works at Lenox China Manufacturing, a 218,000-square-foot assembly plant that opened in 1989 and is the only fine bone china factory in the nation. The Kinston facility uses four million pounds of clay annually and makes 15,000-20,000 pieces of china each day, including nine of the top 10 Lenox patterns that the company sells. Clay making, mold making, glazing and decorating all occur at the Kinston plant where Lenox creates its only two colors of bone china: white and ivory.
