Located in the center of Eastern North Carolina, Craven County is a growing region with a diverse economy.

By 2018, the county expects to add approximately 7,000 more residents to boost its population to over 114,000 people. Craven County, NC, includes Havelock,  home of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and the Fleet Readiness Center East, and New Bern,  located at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers. Craven County’s highly diverse economy includes concentrations in advanced manufacturing, logistics and pharmaceutical production. Major employers in Craven County, NC, include pharmaceutical packaging company Alyward Enterprises USA, yacht builder Hatteras, lift and mobilizing equipment maker Tandemloc, faucet manufacturer Moen and appliance maker B/S/H. Craven County, NC, offers an integrated transportation network, with access to major highways, such as U.S. Highways 17 and 70. Coastal Carolina Regional Airport features daily commercial flights connecting to major airports and also offers general aviation services for private aircraft. Norfolk Southern Railway provides rail freight service from Craven County to points from Florida to Canada and services the Port of Morehead City, located 35 miles south of New Bern. 

The Port of Wilmington, 80 miles southwest of New Bern, is a low-cost container truck port. More than 20 percent of the county’s workforce has a four-year college degree and educational resources include Craven Community College. Its location gives Craven County access to the Intercoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean beaches. In the center, the Croatan National Forest is 155,000 acres of woodlands that includes 40 miles of streams and 4,300 acres of lakes, providing year-round opportunities for hiking, camping, hunting, canoeing, fishing and wildlife observation.
