Celebrate Americana music at MerleFest. Held every spring in Wilkesboro, MerleFest started in 1988 as a tribute to banjo player Merle Watson, and has since become a venue for artists across many genres and a way for fans to celebrate the evolution of Americana music.

For four days each summer, a dozen stages across Wilkes Community College hold concerts featuring blues, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and other music. Between shows guest can enjoy a nature walk through the forests of the WCC campus, and kids can enjoy some fun and games and even some music of their own at Little Pickers Area. Or, for fellow musicians wondering how they stack up, there are guitar and banjo contests offering various prizes to whoever picks their way to the top.
