Residents of Lincoln can rest easy. Their health is in good hands. The city’s health care system earned Lincoln a Well City USA designation by the Wellness Council of America. The city also received an A for air quality from the American Lung Association. But Lincoln’s two hospitals provide more than just peace of mind. They keep residents of the region healthy by offering different, but complementary, specialties. Lincoln’s newest facility is BryanLGH West Medical Center, a 581-bed hospital with all-private suites, specializing in cardiac and pulmonary care as well as offering rheumatology, oncology, dialysis and ophthalmology services. The hospital also treats sleep disorders, alcohol and substance abuse, trauma and other health care needs. BryanLGH is home to one of just 28 interoperative MRIs in the nation. The device allows doctors to use the iMRI technology while they are in surgery. They can see tumors in real time, 3-D images and plan the best operating approach, as well as ensure they have removed the entire tumor before they finish the operation. Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, Lincoln’s other hospital, has served the community since 1889. Saint Elizabeth is a 257-bed facility that specializes in newborn and pediatric care, women’s health, cardiology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, neuroscience, oncology, rehabilitation and burn and wound care. Like BryanLGH, Saint Elizabeth offers all-private rooms and emphasizes on a holistic healing approach. Designers have tried to create an atmosphere of calm and comfort throughout the hospital, particularly in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where doctors try to enhance the development of sick babies. Saint Elizabeth is ranked among the top 100 hospitals nationwide by Thomson and received magnet designation for excellence in nursing. Lincoln is also home to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, a Veterans Administration Medical Center and numerous nursing homes, substance abuse clinics and at-home care services.
