The presence of New Mexico State University creates a diverse population in the heart of the city, while Las Cruces’ rich Mexican-American heritage brings even more color to the mixture. The city's eclectic culture is showcased in neighborhoods throughout the area.

Old Mesilla

The source of much of the area’s history, Old Mesilla maintains an Old Western atmosphere, complete with adobe-style buildings, local ghost stories and a haunted restaurant, the Double Eagle. Mainly a tourist attraction, this neighborhood has more than 40 shops and several museums, along with guided tours of the historic town.

University Park

Located just south of New Mexico State University, University Park caters to college students with its proximity to the school, abundance of residences for rent and affordable housing. According to city-data.com, University Park ranked #14 on the list of Top 100 Cities with the Highest Percentage of College Students.

Sonoma Ranch

A residential community to the north of Las Cruces, Sonoma Ranch provides residents with comfortable living, offering a restaurant, Sunset Grill, and an 18-hole golf course, all within the boundaries of this planned community. Homes in this neighborhood are generally available for roughly $250,000.

Downtown Las Cruces

As an area friendly to small business, downtown Las Cruces is a venue for locals and visitors to come and enjoy the local color found in handmade crafts, homegrown foods and historic culture. The Las Cruces Farmers and Craft Market is held in year round in downtown twice a week.
