Be a good sport? That's easy to do in Santa Fe, where the Recreation Department oversees four large recreational facilities, as well as sports leagues, camps and clinics.
The department runs sites such as Genoveva Chavez Community Center, Salvador Perez Fitness Center, Fort Marcy Recreation Complex and Fort Marcy Pool. It also organizes leagues in basketball, flag football, softball and volleyball, plus sponsors events like Bike to Work Week and an annual Youth Sports Camp.
Meanwhile, for golf enthusiasts, Santa Fe is home to Towa Golf Course, which offers four separate nine-hole settings. Other public venues are Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe and Santa Fe Country Club, while private facilities include Quail Run Santa Fe and The Club at Las Campanas.
Outdoors? It's Great
If adventure is what you like, Santa Fe has attractions such as Hyde Memorial State Park and White Rock Canyon. Hyde Memorial is in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and offers summertime camping and hiking, while winter fun can include sledding and tubing down snow-covered hillsides. As for White Rock Canyon, it was carved by the Rio Grande River and is a haven for hikers with trail names like Canyon Rim Trail, Blue Dot Trail and Red Dot Trail.
Another Santa Fe adventure spot is Nambe Falls & Recreation Area, a registered National Historic Landmark that features waterfalls, lakes and mountainous areas. And Black Canyon Trail offers a short hiking pathway through an aspen-fir forest with plenty of nature-watching opportunities for families.
