Whether it’s finding quality workout facilities or wanting to challenge yourself with a competitive race, the Fulton-Montgomery Region answers the call.

Fitness Centers

The YMCA maintains fitness centers in Fulton County and Amsterdam, each featuring a variety of programs and themed training groups to go along with impressive facilities.

In Fulton County, members can enjoy a six-lane, 25-yard swimming pool, fitness center, multisports court and outdoor area. Child care is provided and programs for kids include art, dance, karate, swimming, sports and day camps.

The Amsterdam Family YMCA, spread over a 34-acre campus, offers more than 15 athletic programs including basketball, ballroom dancing, yoga and Zumba classes, and more. Under the facility’s covered pavilion, members can enjoy arts, crafts and summer day camp activities. Child care is available year round.

In Gloversville, Fit Happens offers more than 100 aerobics classes each month, personal trainers to guide you toward your fitness goals and workout areas separate from the rest of the gym, providing both space and privacy.

Perth Ultimate Fitness in Amsterdam gives patrons not only top-flight strength and cardio workout facilities and classes, but also tanning and massage services. There are also nutritional supplements and personal training packages available. Hosner Fitness offers a free first fitness class and Total Body Resistance Exercise training, known as TRX.

Racing Run

The Fulton-Montgomery Region also gives athletes the chance to have some competitive fun. And they are doing so in record numbers.

The Peck’s Lake Triathlon in Fulton County saw 137 participants in 2013 for the half-mile swim, 9-mile bike ride and 3-mile run. In Montgomery County, the Rally in the Valley 5k and Duathlon combines running and bike riding in a chip-timed race in the Mohawk Valley, with all proceeds benefiting Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity.
