With two universities, two community colleges, a state college and a technical school, education is a high priority in the Tonawanda, NY area.

Tonawanda, North Tonawanda School Districts

The Tonawanda and North Tonawanda School Districts feature three and four elementary schools, respectively, and each includes a middle school and high school as well. Sports play a major role in academic life, with both districts offering boys soccer, cross country, golf and football, along with girls swimming, soccer and volleyball. A broad range of extracurricular activities are available to area students – at public and private schools alike – including opportunities to participate in chorus, drama and music programs.

SUNY Buffalo, Buffalo State, Niagara University

The University at Buffalo (UB) is a premier, research-oriented public university, and with upwards of 20,000 undergrads and 10,000 graduate students, it’s the largest and most comprehensive school in the 64-campus State University of New York (SUNY) system. Between the College of Arts & Sciences and the university’s 11 professional schools, UB offers students the chance to get an excellent education in virtually any area of study.

For its part, Buffalo State educates more than 22,000 students on its 125-acre City of Buffalo campus, and fields eight men’s and 11 women’s Division III sports teams. And Niagara University is a private liberal arts university that embodies a values-based Catholic tradition. Niagara features four academic divisions (including Business Administration, Education, and Hospitality & Tourism Management), and competes in 18 Division I sports.

Community Colleges

Niagara County Community College – which offers 45 associate degrees and educates more than 7,000 students – features a 250-acre rural campus just minutes from Buffalo, Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. And Erie Community College is the fourth-largest SUNY community college, and boasts more than 90 degree, certificate and online programs.

ITT Technical Institute (Getzville)

ITT Tech-Buffalo offers nine different career-focused degree programs at its Getzville, NY campus, including programs in Network Systems Administration, Graphic Communications & Design and Criminology & Forensic Technology.
