Syracuse, NY: Shopping Overview
Shopping in Syracuse includes small shops in Armory Square to large retailers in the Carousel Center mall.
Shopaholics will not be disappointed in Syracuse. The city is rapidly gaining a reputation as a prime shopping destination with its quaint downtown shops and nationally renowned malls.
Armory Square attracts countless visitors to the historic Warehouse District in downtown Syracuse each year. Dating back to the early 19th century, the Jefferson Armory and the surrounding hotels were completely evacuated by 1940 due to the decline in railroads. Today, one-of-a-kind shops, decadent restaurants and pubs, and accommodating hotels occupy these well-preserved buildings and revive the historic charm of ancestral Syracuse.
Armory Square houses distinctive boutiques, such as Jet Black for women and Mr. Shop for men, but also recently set up shop for Urban Outfitters.
Travel + Leisure included the Carousel Center as one of the most visited malls in 2011. Big name stores, such as H&M, Best Buy, Finish Line, Coach and Apple help fill up the more than 1-million-square-foot facility.
If mall shopping isn’t for you, then cruise down Erie Boulevard or trek up to University Hill for book shops, boutiques and college gear.
