Offering an all-American menu with the convenience of a carhop, Swenson's Drive-In is hamburger heaven for Akron locals. The first Swenson's opened in 1934 and has since expanded to include six locations throughout Akron. The signature dish is a Galley Boy burger, a double burger with two special sauces that keeps customers coming back for more. Swenson's was recently voted 2010's #1 Best Burger by Ohio's Fox 8 news, and the Swenson's website has a special section dedicated to Swenatics where fans can share their love of Akron's iconic carhop.
For those willing to try some adventures in eating, Chrissie Hynde's VeggieTerranean restaurant will prove to be a challenge guests' will be happy they took. The menu is entirely vegan, and the restaurant makes the most out of their limited ingredients. Noteworthy items include the professed “best fries you've ever tasted,” complete with balsamic ketchup.
Serving up some old-fashioned spaghetti and meatballs in a newly revamped warehouse is Akron's Spaghetti Warehouse. Though the restaurant operates in nine states, Akron locals have embraced the Warehouse as their own. The restaurant sits in a remodeled 1950's factory, and its large seating capacity makes it ideal for celebrations or family get-togethers. A trolley rests in the center of the Warehouse, and a few lucky diners get to enjoy their Italian inside the 1920's and 30's memorabilia-adorned car. The impressive seven-page menu includes all the usual Italian staples, and the rustic atmosphere gives the Warehouse the edge up on Italian cuisine.
