#76. Marietta, GA

Just 30 minutes outside of downtown Atlanta is the warm, welcoming city of Marietta. Marietta is one of Atlanta’s largest suburbs and is experiencing exponential growth because of its many opportunities, an assortment of amenities that give residents a high quality of life, and relatively low cost of living. The city is rich with arts and culture and provides easy access to the great outdoors. History buffs love it here, too, as the city has five National Register historic districts and a downtown square that dates back to the 1800s.

Top Industries and Employers: Ever heard of Home Depot? Its technology is based out of Marietta. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is based here, too.

Best Coffee Shop: Cool Beans Coffee Roasters

Best Local Beer/Brewery: Glover Park Brewery is a locally owned and operated favorite that serves up pints of locally crafted beer. The brewery’s garden is pet-friendly, hosts an assortment of food trucks and has plenty of TVs to watch any of the area’s major league teams play.

Must-Have Meal: Try anything from the menu at Spring, an award-winning restaurant focused on seasonal, locally grown foods that are prepared in a sustainable atmosphere.

Best Co-Working Space: FireWorks was Marietta’s first co-working community and is still an amazing space for working.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): Burn off some steam and have fun doing it at American Axes

Creative Hub: The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre is a fixture on the Marietta Square and hosts a variety of artistic endeavors, including classic films, concerts and stage productions.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Exploring Marietta Square. Located in historic downtown, the Square is home to dozens of shops and restaurants and a weekly farmers’ market.

Free Way to Have Fun: Originally attached to Dobbins Air Force Base is the nearly 45-acre A.L. Burrus Nature Park. Spend the afternoon exploring the three nature trails, cycling or plan ahead and pack a picnic for an afternoon in nature.

Local Dream Job: Tour guide at the Marietta Fire Museum. In 1854 the Marietta Fire Department was formed after multiple fires destroyed the town, especially Marietta Square. The museum provides an overview of Marietta’s history, fire techniques and houses a collection that even includes a Silsby Steamer purchased by the city in 1879.
