In 2011, The Washington Post ranked Eugene as the 16th best city in the nation for independent businesses.

The biggest industries here are wood products manufacturing and recreation vehicle manufacturing, while the two largest largest individual employers are the University of Oregon and the City of Eugene. However, the majority of businesses in Eugene actually have fewer than 20 employees.
