Natural Beauty

The city's natural landscape makes it an excellent place to be outdoors. Situated between two mountain ranges, winters in Eugene are the perfect time for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes, or for those who prefer icy team sports there is also an outdoor hockey rink.

During the mild spring and summer months, Eugene residents take to the streets either biking, walking or running.

Cyclists Welcome

Cyclists can join the Greater Eugene Area Riders, or GEARs, who encourage riding by coordinating group rides and educate city officials about making cycling a safe part of Eugene's culture.

Parks Aplenty

Eugene's Parks and Open Space Department provides the city with nearly 50 recreational programs to fit any interest and fitness level.

The city has 40 parks and recreation facilities that span about 2,900 acres.

The largest of these, Alton Baker Park, includes an off-leash dog park, a BMX bike track and a huge community garden. The park is bordered by the Williamette River and the interior is dotted with small ponds for visitors to relax or picnic near.
