Charleston residents have plenty of options when it comes to health care.

East Cooper Medical Center

East Cooper Medical Center is committed to delivering quality care, and their reputation for excellence has earned the hospital recognition. It was the first South Carolina hospital to be recognized for excellent service by the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program. Programs such as the 10,000 Lives Campaign, originally created as a way to motivate hospitals across the nation to improve overall patient care, have spurred East Cooper to reach its high standards of service. So far, the 3,100 participating hospitals have saved an estimated 122,000 lives in just 18 months.

Medical University of South Carolina

MUSC's reputation as a leading teaching center has pushed it to the forefront of the medical scene. In 2009, U.S. News & World Report named it “One of America's Best Hospitals” in seven different specialties, and nearly 300 of the hospital's physicians made the Best Doctor's in America list. The medical center itself is comprised of 700 beds, and its six colleges train nearly 2,600 health professionals each year. Recently, MUSC's Hollings Cancer Center was designated a National Cancer Institute.

Roper St. Francis Health Care

Roper St. Francis is comprised of three full-service hospitals, Roper, Bon Secours, and Mount Pleasant, and has plans to establish one in the Berkeley community. Altogether, Roper St. Francis has 657 beds and 4,800 employees. In addition to its hospitals, Roper offers two specialty clinics, multiple diagnostic centers, and a senior center.

Trident Health System

Trident also offers multiple in-patient facilities, including Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center. Trident offers 294 and most major services, while Summerville holds 94 beds and is know for its cardiac care, sleep lab and women's services.
