The largest city in South Dakota, Sioux Falls just keeps on growing – it’s the fastest growing metro area in the Midwest.
In April 2017 Sioux Falls landed at No. 39 on Livability.com's Top100 Best Places to Live. The place is popular because it is affordable, has good schools and plenty to do.
In 2015, the median price for a single-family home was about $157,800. In neighborhoods south and east of the city center, though, it is easy to spend nearly twice that.
The city has five historic districts. The Cathedral neighborhood has the Pettigrew Home and Museum and other turn-of-the-century (the previous century) homes. Tree-lined boulevards and classic, larger homes distinguish McKennan Park.
Near the universities and colleges, Park Ridge/Sioux Valley, a little farther west, attracts college students and younger residents who like the easy access to downtown. With everything from bungalows to split-level homes, the area is also popular with families.
New construction is all over the northwest section of Sioux Falls, where development is meeting demand from businesses locating there, the arena, the stadium and the convention center. The southwestern quadrant has some fast-growing neighborhoods.
Roosevelt Valley is filled with diversity. Just northeast of Roosevelt Valley, the Kingswood/Silver Valley neighborhood is a bit more established and popular with professional couples and families. Homes in southeast Sioux Falls have easy access to schools shopping, parks, restaurants and the interstate system. New developments are adding to the mix, and this area as some of the city’s more expensive homes. Apartments and condos are available throughout the city.
Moving away from the center of Sioux Falls, they tend to get bigger, and more expensive. Sioux Falls gets kudos from Organic Gardening magazine as a city working to make neighborhoods healthier and more sustainable. Even the water gets good grades here. In 2008, Forbes ranked the tap water as the third cleanest in the country.
