Maury County is making a name for itself in health care. With an outstanding medical center, partnerships with Nashville’s best hospitals, and new pediatric, emergency and outpatient facilities in Spring Hill, area residents can easily access cutting-edge care close to home.

Columbia-based Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is highly ranked by the nation’s top hospital rating agencies for its quality care and best medical practices. The medical center is consistently named among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, and was the only Tennessee hospital to attain the Everest Award, which honors hospitals that have achieved the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.

The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading health-care accreditation authority, also designated Maury Regional as a top-performing hospital for its exemplary performance in using effective processes to improve care for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.

“I am immensely proud of the quality, customer service and financial value that we provide to more than 260,000 residents in our region,” says Alan Watson, chief executive officer of Maury Regional. “We have been compared to some of the most prestigious medical centers in the nation on federally reported data, and we continue to receive accolades for the quality of care that we provide.”

Maury Regional Enhances Specialty Care, Outpatient Services

Along with earning recognition for its orthopedics and diabetes care, Maury Regional has been breaking new ground in areas such as cardiology and neurology. The hospital recently became one of the first in Tennessee to offer a new treatment option for patients suffering from coronary artery disease (CAD), and it provides a full range of services for individuals with a variety of neurological diseases and disorders.

Maury Regional is also expanding its outpatient network. The hospital recently welcomed to its campus an urgent care facility, First Stop Urgent Care, that is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., and the health-care provider is extending its reach throughout the county with the newly opened Maury Regional Spring Hill.

The 62,365-square-foot facility, which has more than 30 physicians and clinical providers, offers an array of outpatient services, including physical therapy, a physician’s specialist clinic, a surgery center and radiation therapy offered in cooperation with Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

“As more and more health services are delivered on an outpatient basis, we have focused our efforts on expanding outpatient services that are provided by an expert team of clinical specialists,” Watson says.

Tri-Star, Columbia Pediatrics Expand in Spring Hill

Nashville-based TriStar Health has also opened a 12-bed emergency room in Spring Hill that provides 24-hour emergency care. The new facility includes board-certified physicians and experienced critical care staff, 12 private patient rooms – including a trauma room, decontamination room and child-friendly rooms – and a helipad to expedite transfers of critically ill or injured patients to area hospitals. TriStar ER at Spring Hill also offers state-of-the-art imaging, diagnostic and treatment services, advanced lab and imaging diagnostics.

“It’s been really wonderful becoming a part of the Spring Hill community,” says Heather Rohan, president and CEO of TriStar Centennial Medical Center.

“More than anything, we want people to know that we are here to serve them around the clock,” she says. “While we do offer several outpatient services in our medical plaza, our ER never closes. Our patients will always be treated by a board-certified physician in the ER and have access to the specialists at TriStar Centennial.”

Columbia Pediatrics, which is celebrating 50 years of practice in the community, opened its own Spring Hill facility in November 2013 and expanded its partnership with Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

With its staff of 12 certified medical providers, including eight pediatricians, Columbia Pediatrics will operate the clinic during normal business hours, while Vanderbilt will run the after-hours children’s clinic. Access to Vanderbilt physicians will allow the clinic to provide specialty care in genetics, pulmonology and urology.

“We are excited that we can offer total pediatric care at our facilities,” says Tiffany Duncan, practice administrator. “We have always wanted a presence in Spring Hill and are excited about our partnership with Vanderbilt.”
