Gallatin City Hall

As the employment hub for Sumner County, Tenn., as well as the northeast Nashville metro area, Gallatin is a business-friendly community that was recently designated a Foreign Trade Zone to encourage more international commerce. Good schools, good roads, low tax rates and an abundance of water contributes to the city’s quality of life, and here is some background on eight major employers:

Sumner County Government & Schools

Based in Gallatin, about 4,000 employees work for the Sumner County Schools district that accommodates 28,000 students and has continued to grow since 2000. Meanwhile, hundreds of other county employees work for government divisions such as criminal courts, the health department, finance, sheriff’s department, roads, veterans services and more.

Sumner Regional Medical Center

It opened in 1959 as Sumner County Memorial Hospital with 50 employees and seven physicians, and today the 155-bed Sumner Regional Medical Center has 1,000 employees and 300 physicians. SCMH is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and offers services such as cancer treatment, cardiac care, same-day surgery, orthopedics, women’s health and rehabilitation services.

The Gallatin warehouse ships clothing throughout the South for the company’s brands that include Gap, Gap Outlet, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory stores and Old Navy.

Volunteer State Community College

Go Pioneers! More than 500 employees work at Volunteer State Community College, also known as Vol State. The two-year college serves 12 counties in northern Middle Tennessee and features five major divisions: business and technology, health sciences, humanities, math and science, and social science and education.

Its pianos are sold under brand names such as Samick, Seiler and Pramberger, and its guitar lineup includes Samick, Silvertone and a Greg Bennett Signature series.

Salga Plastics

Salga Plastics is a subsidiary of Canadian-owned ABC Group, and the Gallatin plant opened in 1987. Salga manufactures components for the global automotive industry that includes interior and exterior systems, painting, fluids parts, air induction systems and injection molding parts.
