Often called the City by the Lake, Hendersonville, TN offers more than 25 miles of shoreline on Old Hickory Lake, along with excellent housing options and close proximity to Nashville’s top attractions. Living in Hendersonville puts you in the heart of Middle Tennessee, an economically vibrant region that continues to attract some of the biggest names in business, like Amazon and Nissan. Residents here speak highly of the city’s family-friendly atmosphere, good schools and entertainment offerings. Homes in Hendersonville

The housing market in Hendersonville includes apartments that range from $600 to $1,200 a month, condominiums, a variety of subdivisions, large lots and lakefront properties. Home prices start at $100,000 and extend into the $500,000 range. Some lakefront estates cost more than $1 million. Most neighborhoods are easily distinguished. Among the largest subdivisions are Mansker Farms, The Maples and Millstone. The city’s three peninsulas – Walton Ferry, Indian Lake and Cages Bend – geographically separate the city.

Schools in Hendersonville

Most schools in Hendersonville are managed by Sumner County Schools. The city currently has three high schools, four middle schools and 10 elementary schools. Merrol Hyde Magnet School has been named a Blue Ribbon School and one of the top schools in the country. Indian Lake Elementary was also named a Blue Ribbon School. Private education options in Hendersonville include Pope John Paul II High School and Hendersonville Christian Academy.

Colleges in Hendersonville include Union University and Volunteer State Community College. Larger institutions such as Vanderbilt University, Middle Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University are not far away.

Health Care 

In the event of medical emergencies, residents of Hendersonville rely on TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, a 15-bed emergency care center that provides rapid assessments, expert treatment and features a helipad for air ambulances. Surrounding hospitals include Vanderbilt University Medical Center, TriStar Skyline Medical Center and Sumner Regional Medical Center. 

Things to Do in Hendersonville

While the 22,500-acre Old Hickory Lake takes center stage among the natural resources found in Hendersonville, the city contains many great places to enjoy the outdoors. Hendersonville is located on the northern shore of the lake, which is frequently used by anglers and for water sports like skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. Youth baseball, softball, soccer and football teams compete on the playing fields at Drakes Creek Park, which features 35 athletic fields, a 2-mile walking path, playground areas, picnic shelters and volleyball courts. Veterans Park provides additional baseball and softball fields and includes an outdoor inline hockey rink and skate park.  

It’s no surprise, what with Hendersonville being so close to Music City, that a number of singers and songwriters can be found here. Many local musicians perform on a regular basis at festivals, events and in venues. Monthaven, a plantation house that dates back to the mid-1800s, is used by the Hendersonville Arts Council and hosts a number of public and private events each year. Another popular historic site is Rock Castle, which hosts an annual Easter egg hunt, songwriters nights and a children’s frontier-themed camp.
