The bustling city of Jackson, situated in West Tennessee between Memphis and Nashville, has a diverse population and enjoys a good business climate, top-rated hospitals, award-winning schools, affordable housing and many recreational opportunities. Jackson officials say the community began investing in a large fiber network in 2003, and in January 2015 Jackson was named a “Gig City.” The title recognized the upgrades to Jackson’s fiber network and offering Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second to the home.

Driven to Perform

Residents have easy access to Interstate 40 that has seven exits in the city, and also available is U.S. Route 45 that goes in a north-south direction. In addition, Jackson houses McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, while the convenience of Nashville International Airport is only a 35-minute drive along I-40.

Residents have the option of attending 10 high schools, including Liberty Technology Magnet and Madison Academic Magnet. In addition, the community has five college and university campuses along with the West Tennessee School for the Deaf.

Jackson is home to the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant, the official state finals to the Miss America competition. The annual event has occurred in Jackson since 1945, and the pageant presents contestants with more than $75,000 in annual scholarships.

A popular tourism site is The Legends of Tennessee Music Museum, which showcases a rich history of music connected to Jackson. Displays detail the lives of local artists like Carl Perkins and Sonny Boy Williamson as well as game show host Wink Martindale, and exhibits showcase the city’s role in rock ‘n’ roll and the birth of rockabilly.
