Raise your glass in a toast to Yazoo Brewery Company, which has been producing microbrewed beer in downtown Nashville since 2003 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012.
The company is owned by Linus and Lila Hall, who moved from Mississippi to establish their Nashville business in what was once the Marathon Motor Works downtown factory building. Then in 2010, the couple moved Yazoo to its current location in The Gulch on Division Street.
The company employs seven full-time people in the brewery and five in the taproom. Their product line has names like Dos Perros, Gerst Beer, Hefeweizen, Hop Project, Onward Stout, Pale Ale, Sly Rye Porter and Sue. The brewery also releases seasonal beers from time to time that are bottled and sold to the public.
The Yazoo taproom is open Wednesday through Saturday, and there are 18 taps along with a cozy patio for outdoor seating. Brewery tours also take place but only on Saturdays starting at 2:30 p.m. and then every hour until 6:30. Tours are $7 with many beer samplings available.
The Yazoo name comes from the Yazoo River that runs through the Hall’s hometown of Vicksburg, Miss.
