Metro Nashville Public Schools is building workforce talent and exposing students to careers early on through its Academies of Nashville program. The program allows high school students to choose a thematic course of study, such as engineering, health care or information technology, and integrates their field of interest with their core curriculum.

More than 325 Nashville businesses, nonprofits and higher education institutions partner with the academies. Participating companies develop close ties with the schools. Bridgestone Americas established an automotive training center as part of Maplewood High School’s Academy of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The center gives students hands-on experience working with the latest auto technology and teaches them how to run a retail store.

The Academies of Nashville have been recognized nationally for helping the school system raise  graduation rates and reduce dropout rates.
