They've got green covered in Louisville, KY, where the movement towards an environmentally friendly way of life is led by a group of local initiatives.

The godfather of the groups is The Partnership for a Green City, a collaborative effort between Louisville-Jefferson Metro Government, the University of Louisville, the Jefferson County School System and Jefferson Community & Technical College, designed to lead Louisville to a greener future. The first of its kind in the country, the partnership now employs more than 26,000 people dedicated to improving environmental health, education and management.

A similar community-based organization, Go Green Louisville, offers citizens tips on how to go green by saving energy, conserving water and recycling.

The city has also completed its first “living” roof, planted with vegetation and trees, which will soon cover the Louisville's Metro Development Center.
