Akron, OH's breweries are full scale and full throttle. The city is home to three of the best beer makers in the state. Unfortunately, these breweries are not attached to pubs, but you can find their brews in bottles at regional stores or behind many local bars.
There's a long line of beers coming out of Hoppin' Frog Brewery, which is owned by Fred Karm, one of the most well respected beer men in the state of Ohio. Hoppin' Frog brews are distributed in more than 13 states. The brewery hosts a number of events throughout the year to celebrate their new batches of brew.
One of the cutest and cuddly marketing plans you'll come across is that of the Thirsty Dog Brewing Company, which makes beers like Labrador Lager, Irish Setter Red and a porter called Old Leghumper. Thirsty Dog brews are distributed in more than 10 states.
Trailhead Brewery, a nano brewery, opened in late 2013, offering three beers - a session stout, super hoppy pale ale and a Belgian golden. Small batch brews are the specialties here, where the brewers experiment with unique flavors.
