Del Rio keeps golfers on their tees with two nice nine-hole venues. The courses – San Felipe Country Club and Leaning Pines Golf Course – are popular with local residents as well as part-time Winter Texans who primarily reside in northern states but move to Del Rio in the winter to escape the cold weather. Here is some brief background on the two courses:
San Felipe Country Club
San Felipe CC opened in the early 1920s and was constructed around three large springs. As a result, this scenic venue features water on several holes, making the course beautiful, challenging and exciting. The greens have hybrid dwarf bermuda grass that provides true rolls for golf balls, and the nine-hole course also has a number of sand bunkers.
Leaning Pine Golf Course
Leaning Pine is actually situated on Laughlin Air Force Base but is open to the public. It is affordable – nine holes with a cart costs only $12. The signature hole is No. 7, a par 5, 535 yarder that requires precise shots due to a narrow fairway. Leaning Pine was built in 1962 and is often busy on weekends, so tee times are required.
