The only problem with recreation in Ogden is deciding what to do first. Below is a list of activities for outdoors enthusiasts of all ages.
Snowbasin Resort, a 2002 Winter Olympics venue, offers world-class powder slopes for unleashing your inner Bode Miller.
Powder Mountain Winter Resort and the nearby Wolf Mountain Ski Resort offer additional snow-capped thrills. Skaters head to Weber State University, where the Ice Sheet at Ogden beckons recreational skaters, figure skaters and ice hockey enthusiasts. The $6 million center was the site of the 2002 Olympic curling competition.
Visitors to the Ogden Nature Center find pristine snowshoe and cross-country trails in winter, which become self-guided nature trails in warmer months. The center includes a tree-house, observation stations, shaded picnic areas and an education program. Runners hit the trail along the Ogden River Parkway, where more than three miles of riverside exercise await.
Additional trails for all ages and levels are part of the Ogden Trails Network. Hikers have a plan at the touch of a button thanks to an online, virtual guide. Trails include the popular Waterfall Canyon and Indian Trail, the latter promising views of the canyon, geologic formations, Ogden City and the Great Salt Lake.
Thrill-seekers head to the Ogden and Weber Rivers for some of the country’s best white-water kayaking. Ogden’s Kayak Rodeo Park, which also offers activities such as mountain biking and fishing, offers kayaking in an urban setting.
Ogden boasts a number of golf courses, such as Mt. Ogden Golf Course, built on the side of a mountain, and the family-friendly Mulligan’s Golf Course, a nine-hole course with one of the nation’s best-lit driving ranges.
Armchair athletes take note: Lindquist Field offers a mountain-view setting for watching the Ogden Raptors, a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Baseballparks.com named Lindquist Field as the location sporting the sport’s best view.
