When you live in a picturesque mountain area such as Ogden, it makes sense to stay healthy in order to take advantage of all the area has to offer. Ogden health-care providers agree, and the city boasts two, full-service hospitals and an array of health and wellness services. Ogden Regional Medical Center is a 239-bed, comprehensive care center, employing more than 300 medical staff assisted by more than 1,000 employees and volunteers. The center performs nearly 6,000 surgeries each year, and receives more than 77,000 outpatient visits. Award-Winning Care In 2003, Money magazine named the award-winning hospital one of the top hospitals in America for knee and hip surgery. In 2001, the hospital was included in a list of 100 top hospitals by Solucient, an independent national health care information company. In addition to inpatient and outpatient care, Ogden Regional offers residents a number of wellness programs. Adults may enroll in h2u, a low-cost program with benefits ranging from health screenings, fitness programs and physician lectures to social activities and discounts on health, travel and retail products. Gold Medal Services Comprehensive services also are offered at McKay-Dee Hospital, which was one of five Utah Hospitals selected as health care providers for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. McKay-Dee's nationally ranked programs include the Heart and Vascular Institute and newborn intensive care unit, and patients are enjoying the perks of a new facility. On March 20, 2002, a ribbon-cutting ceremony opened the doors of the new hospital, which includes a 9,000-square-foot child development center. The hospital also serves as a pharmacy residency rotation site as well as a family practice residency program site. Residents needing physical therapy, a fitness tune-up or a soothing massage may seek care from an organization such as Wasatch Therapy and Fitness, which has served the area for more than 20 years. Wasatch’s therapy services include physical and occupational therapy as well as assistance recovering from orthopedic injuries, neurological injuries and managing conditions such as lymphedema. The center also offers a full schedule of fitness classes, from boot-camp and strength-training to Pilates and, because they have a sense of humor and a sense of client comfort level, Boy-ilates.
