Going out to eat in Ogden often means heading for the historic downtown area, where a variety of restaurants offer something to please every palate. Roosters Brewing Company and Restaurant touts itself as the place to go after a day in the great outdoors. Summer feels like summer at weekly barbecues on the outdoor patio, but diners can also experience the ambiance only a historic building can offer for fancier entrees such as herb-crusted rack of lamb. Roosters’ 26 varieties of beer include the soothing Mom’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Ale.
Service With a Smile
When amore translates to genuine Italian food, one of Ogden’s choices is La Ferrovia Ristorante, owned by former Naples residents Giuseppina and Rita Iodice. Gnocchi lovers have their names on a list so they can receive a call when the handmade dumpling delights will be on the menu. La Ferrovia also offers pasta, calzone and vegetarian entrees, as well as an invitation to inquire about dessert. Jasoh New American Cuisine serves dinner and caters lunch, although they remind gourmands they serve a “killer brunch on Easter and Mother’s Day,” where past promotions have included comping Mom’s meal. Chef Jason Hess, whose credentials include working under Wolfgang Puck, serves up temptations such as pear and goat cheese salad and crispy guava duckling. The location’s striking South Harrison Street digs are contemporary yet warm, but the restaurant currently is cooking up a new atmosphere, renovating a location in the historic downtown district and adding a casual dining menu.
Don't Forget Dessert
A quick trip for a mid-afternoon snack or end-of-the-day dessert calls for an indulgent stop at Farr Better Ice Cream. The company, which began in 1929, now includes the downtown parlor as well as grocery store sales and soft-serve mix distribution. Farr’s scoops up the basics but also branches out with flavors such as green pineapple and Raptor Ripple, named in honor of Ogden’s minor league baseball team.
