There are specialty stores throughout the city, but you can find most shoppers in the retail haven, Old Town, or at one of the Alexandria malls.

Old Town

Besides restaurants and entertainment, Old Town is a prime destination for shopping. Known as the Boutique District, Old Town offers an array of retail opportunities, from antiques to jewelry and decor to art. Pretty People Vintage is an eclectic, but organized, vintage boutique that has modern and vintage items at a reasonable price.

When you’re done browsing the shop, don’t miss the European fashion at An American in Paris boutique. The shop stays true to its name by carrying American and French labels of clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories.

There’s more than just clothing in Old Town. See why Alexandria was voted Amazon.com’s “Best Read City” at Book Bank used books. Or check out The Hangar, which allows you to live a pilot’s life with aviation suits and build-your-own gliders that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

Washington Square Antiques specializes in 18th- and 19th-century furniture, but other novelties rest on its shelves. Trojan Antiques is another popular place among antiquers with antique jewelry, silverware and trinkets.

Old Town has familiar chain retail centers as well. Catch a good bargain at the Crate and Barrel Outlet, or shop for organic threads and groceries at the local Whole Foods.
